Near Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, the Draa Valley desert trek offers a unique and contrasting itinerary in harmony with its picturesque landscapes. A long stretch of greenery extends as far as the eye can see. Bordered by date palms, the Draa River generously waters the magnificent palm groves and plots along its path before disappearing into the sands, giving rise to the most beautiful Saharan landscapes in southern Morocco.

Itinerary of Draa Valley Desert Trek
Reception at the airport, transfer, and check-in at your hotel. The rest of the day is free, and you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the medina and souks near Jemaa el-Fna Square in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.
1 hour of trekking, Accommodation: BIVOUAC You leave the red city early in the morning, heading towards the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi Tichka pass. After Ouarzazate, you follow the Draa Valley and its string of oases, passing through Agdz, Zagora, and Tagounit. It will take 8.5 hours of driving to reach the small village of Mhamid, where you will meet your camel team. Begin the trek between gardens and adobe constructions towards the old village of Mhamid and the edge of the palm grove. Overnight in a bivouac.
6 hours of trekking, Accommodation: BIVOUAC Heading west, you walk along the Draa River between the palm grove and tamarisk trees, passing through the old village of Mhamid. After the palm grove, cross the plateau of Sidi Naji before reaching the dunes of the same name. Set up camp in the dunes.
6 hours of trekking, Accommodation: BIVOUAC You leave the dunes of Sidi Naji to approach the vast desert spaces. The landscape fills with dunes as you finally reach the large dunes of Erg Zaher. Resupply with water and meet the Aït Khabbach nomads at the Zaher well.
5 hours of trekking, Accommodation: BIVOUAC Heading north, you leave Erg Zaher towards Ait Ounir. A very beautiful and varied day between dunes, tamarisk, and acacias. Camp in the Ait Ounir dunes.
6 hours of trekking, Accommodation: BIVOUAC After climbing the dunes of Erg Ounir, you head southeast. This beautiful day of trekking in the dunes gradually ends at Ras Nkhal, located at the entrance to the Mhamid palm grove. Overnight among palm trees, tamarisk, and sand.
1 hour of trekking, Accommodation: HOTEL You cross a sparse tamarisk forest and, after 1 to 2 hours of walking, you meet your minibus in the remote village of Mhamid. Begin the return transfer to Ouarzazate, then continue to Marrakech, arriving at the end of the day. Check-in at the hotel in Marrakech and enjoy a free evening.
Depending on your departure schedule, transfer to the airport with your guide, assistance with check-in formalities, and departure to France.
