Places You’ll See
Fez and Marrakech are the two main cities visited in this Moroccan circuit. In both, you’ll enjoy a guided tour to explore the attractions and secrets of the city of Fez.
But on this Moroccan circuit, you’ll not only have time to discover monumental cities and vibrant medinas. Some days will also be reserved for enjoying the opposite: natural landscapes filled with peace, where you can achieve perfect harmony with the surroundings and yourself. This is the case with the Sahara Desert: we will reach one of its most iconic corners, such as the Erg Chebbi dunes, around Merzouga. The same goes for the Moroccan mountains: we will cross the High and Middle Atlas, passing through protected places like the Cedar National Park. And while our odometer racks up distance on the road, we will see palm groves, rocky canyons, and cultivated areas that will allow you to discover Morocco’s diverse landscapes. A contrasting itinerary that reveals the splendor of Morocco, perfectly in tune with its picturesque landscapes.
Itinerary of 7 day desert tour from Tangier to Marrakech
On the first day of the 7-day tour from Tangier to Marrakech, we will depart early from Tangier to Chefchaouen, a charming city located in the Rif Mountains, known for its blue houses. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a tour of the medina, strolling through its picturesque alleys, admiring its blue houses, and visiting the famous Uta el-Hammam square. In Chefchaouen, we will also have the chance to savor excellent local cuisine and shop for crafts in its local stores. In the evening, we will stay in a hotel in Chefchaouen.
On the second day, we will depart early from Chefchaouen towards Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco. Here, we can explore the remains of ancient Roman villas, baths, arches, and mosaics while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding plain. After our visit, we will continue to Meknes, the Ismaili capital of Morocco. Meknes features several historic monuments that should not be missed, including the famous Bab Mansour gate, El-Hedim square, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. After visiting Meknes, we will continue to Fez, where we will spend the night.
On the third day, we will dedicate the entire day to exploring the imperial city of Fez, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world and a true treasure of Moroccan cultural heritage. In Fez, we will visit its medieval medina, a labyrinth of narrow and winding alleys, its souks where we can find a variety of local products, as well as its most famous madrasas and mosques, including the Al Quaraouiyine University, the Bou Inania Mosque, and the Attarine Madrasa. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to enjoy local cuisine in some of its most emblematic restaurants. In the evening, we will stay in Fez.
On the fourth day, we will depart early from Fez to the Merzouga desert, one of the most impressive landscapes in Morocco. During our journey, we will pass through the city of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture and cool climate. We will continue to Midelt, located in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where we can enjoy stunning views. Then, we will proceed to the Ziz Valley and the Erg Chebbi dunes, near the city of Merzouga.
If you wake up early enough, the Sahara desert offers an incredible sunrise. After breakfast in the desert, you can return leisurely on a camel to your hotel at the edge of the dunes and appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes in the early light. From there, we will head to the Todgha Gorges, known as a major destination for climbers. The gorges are the highest and narrowest in western Morocco, where we can do some walking before heading to the Dades Valley.
After breakfast, we will start our journey towards the Valley of Roses, which blooms in April, and move on to the palm groves of Skoura, where the architecture of the Kasbahs extends under the shade of the palm trees. We will stop in Ouarzazate to photograph the Kasbah of Taourirt and visit the film studios, which are key attractions in Ouarzazate. Then, we will proceed to Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most visited sites in the south. After the visit and lunch, we will drive again crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n Tichka pass (2260 meters), arriving in Marrakech by 6:00 PM.
