Your 5-Day Morocco Itinerary
Marrakech to Nesrat via Ouarzazate
Depart Marrakech by minibus and cross the High Atlas through Tizi N’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. Stop in Ouarzazate before continuing through the Draa Valley, with its fortified villages, palm groves and kasbahs. Enjoy a picnic en route and reach Nesrat for the first bivouac. Driving: approximately 7 hours 30 minutes. Overnight in tents.
Nesrat to the Tidri Dunes
Begin the trek through the Nesrat palm grove and discover the traditional irrigation system used to cultivate henna, barley, wheat, alfalfa and date palms. Continue toward the Bougayoir dunes, cross a mineral-rich plateau and pass a fortified earthen village, kasbahs and marabouts. Walk through the Sidi Saleh palm grove to the camp among the Tidri dunes. Walking: 4 to 6 hours. Overnight in tents.
Tidri to Erg Sahel
Walk between dunes and stone desert toward Erg Sahel, an immense sea of sand continuously reshaped by the wind. Pause for lunch beneath the tamarisk trees and enjoy the complete isolation of this remote desert landscape. Walking: 4 to 6 hours. Overnight in tents.
Erg Sahel to Ouled Driss via Rgabi
Continue through the dune sea toward the dark rocky reg and a mineral plateau dotted with tamarisk and acacia trees. See the villages of Bounou, M’Hamid and Ouled Driss in the distance before reaching lower dunes for the final bivouac. In the evening, taste traditional sand bread and enjoy songs around the fire with the local team. Walking: 4 to 6 hours. Overnight in tents.
Ouled Driss to Marrakech
After breakfast, enjoy one final short walk in the dunes before meeting your vehicle. Return to Marrakech through Zagora and Ouarzazate, with a picnic along the way. Arrive in the late afternoon and transfer to your Riad. Driving: approximately 8 hours / 450 km.
